Aldi have an own label brand, Glen Marnoch which they use for a variety of bottlings. I bought the Islay version for £18.99. This is a vatted whisky but if you like Caol Ila this is as close as you are going to get for cheap. Standard Caol Ila 12yo is now around £40.

If you like your peaty smoky malts then this one is up your street especially if you are more into the dryer side than the sweet side.

reusable ice cubes, no unintended dilution In my experience thus far the taste bud numbing comes only from the alcohol content, dilute to a more palatable level and chilled or ambient is fine, with the heating on at the moment though ambient is a tad warm and these don't chill perhaps as much as ice does either.

Had to leave the advent calendar at home, I'm on the road in Bonnie Scotland for a week now (watch this space, there is a LOT of whisky in the area) Had couple of double Rum n Cokes at a concert (Biffy Clyro) as for once I was close enough to walk back from the venue so was a new experience.

V good fun!

Thanks for the heads up, they won't be as low as mine. Nil.
I try to avoid driving the morning after wherever possible, give it some food to be absorbed in and consider myself right about lunchtime to be safe. Only a few times have I had to drive before that so hopefully I'll not break any limits.

Staying city centre in Edinburgh too so I can try some of the whisky experience and such

It's been a long week, what with my horrible commute and the worsening weather, the munchkin in and now out of hospital having her jaw put straight, being called at 6 this morning by said munchkin who could not breath properly (steam from a pan of boiling water and a towel cured that) so it's out with the warm, sweet and comforting Jamesons and ginger ale tonight. Just sat together watching Harry Potter 2 and I'm finding it hard to stay awake after a couple of tumblers...

I took antibiotics on Thursday, one big dose then I can't drink for 4 days. Normally I don't drink much anyway but now I have to abstain I'm gagging for a glass of wine!

I'm drinking French Martinis at my annual Crieff Christmas night with friends, and bloody lovely they are too, both friends and the drinks.
