Default Is my engine ok?

Hi all,

After having done my r6 throttle mod , I tried to start my bike up to go for a ride.

First go with choke and no joy. 2nd go was without choke and the bike started but I couldn't grab the choke in time to keep it going.

After that no joy and after about 8 or so tries I gave in and wheeled her back in. The battery's too low and I'll be putting it on charge next time I can get to the bike.

What I'm worried about is the last few times I tried to start the bike, the engine would turn a bit then make a single knock-type noise you could feel through the bars and the oil pressure light would flicker on quickly...

The bike started first time when my Dad had a go at starting it a couple of hours later so all seems ok (phew) but in trying too hard to start my bike before, have I done any damage to my engine?

Cheers everyone...

Probably not, if it kicked back there is the slim possibility of breaking teeth from the starter gear.

When you try and start it put the choke on then crank it, if it hasn't enough juice to turn over then don't keep trying.

that knock is normal.
charge battery and try again.you can use little throttle along with choke.

Was it a bit chilly?Sounds like your battery is weak either because it is old and a bit tired or due to lack of maintenance/charge.

Sorry to deviate slightly but what does the r6 throttle mod achieve?

Shorter rotation of the throttle grip to acheive full throttle. Its my understanding that it is made so that small throttle movments (like those you make in town) still provide the fine control you need, but it dosnt need to be twisted as far to get full throttle (i.e. its not a constant-radius on the bit the cable is connected to?)

Im sure your bike will be ok; the SV has some really quite strong parts on it - the engine is one of them

Like oyu said, give the battery a really good charge on an optimate and see how it starts afterwards. If there is still a problem, then it might be related to either the throttle or the choke (they might need a nice bit of lubrication!)
