Default Fuel Mileage

I just checked my mileage for the first time since I installed the 16 tooth front sprocket. The light came on at 303 kms. I filled up with 12.8 litres at 315 kms. I'd say that's about 68 mpg. All on back roads at about 120 KPH with a few passes up to 140 to 160 KPH. Not too bad!

That's imperial gallons.
2001 SV650S with OE exhaust.
Incidentally, my bike had a full Hindle exhaust when I bought it and presumably had been re-jetted to suit. When I changed to an original exhaust (I like quiet bikes), I didn't touch the carburation and the bike runs beautifully. This makes me think that stock bikes are jetted a bit lean for emissions requirements and can benefit from a richer set up.

Thats nearer 69.5 mpg Oldie dude, thats pretty damn good?

Someone will correct me if I'm veering wildy off target here but if my memory serves, if you are only riding conservatively and cruising around then up-jetting won't make any difference. I thought bigger jets only made a difference when you were caning a bike using over half to full throttle?!

No, you're not wildly off. The main jet controls primarily the fuel flow at larger throttle openings - however that isn't to say that it has no effect elsewhere.
In practice all the jets flow some fuel all the time, but they're chosen for and have their most pronounced effects at different throttle settings.
