Default Where can I get my tank cleaned?

It's a 1998 Challenger 2 MBT built by Vickers ha ha ha ha

But seriously folks. The tank on Project Triumph has been half full of fuel since last used in 2003 (the shame). Obviously I can just tip the petrol out down the neighbour's drain but where can I get the crud inside vanished away?

Get yirsel a jerry can and a basin

Pour some petrol into the tank and give it a good slosh around then empty into basin

repeat several times until pouring clear

keep the dirty fuel for cleaning (or starting the BBQ as my Brother in law did at the expense of an eyebrow )

Nice one. I've already got a basin so I'm half way there already!

Stick a pressure washer inside it to break the loose crud off and use paraffin to rinse it out. After it has been cleaned dry it all out with a hair dryer stuck in it on LOW setting for a couple of hours. You can get a resin type sealant to finish the job which lines the tank, but I would suggest fitting a cheap easily accessable inline filter and take a spare with you for the immediate usage afterwards.Another tip is don't fill the tank to the brim afterwards, but let the engine pull low level fuel through, thereby trapping any residue in the inline filter I've done this on a couple of bikes with grotty tanks and they have been OK

I had a wee bit of rust in mine, so I used the time honoured "drop in a handful of nuts and some diesel and give it a shake". Then spent about a day getting the nuts out. Lots of loose rust too though. Then sealed it with pet-something-or-other, which I made a complete bo*****s of but it doesn't leak at least.

I only used that sealant once for a weep on a tank but like Northy found it a lot of trouble so if its a plastic tank or metal and no leaks go the fuel filter route.

Sorry heid------------------
Just buy a couple of the cheapest and break into the fuel line from the tank with a extra piece of fuel line and filter so you can reach it easily. After you are satisfied it is running clean either put a joiner in or refit it as original. I used a car one as they let more fuel through and take longer to block if there is any residue left in the tank. After it is running clear I took it off and connected the fuel line back onto the tank as it should be

Thanks mate. I'm off to Autokits up the street for a nut splitter anyway (bloody Triumph, 4 years standing in a damp garage and it's all corroded) so I'll pick up a couple of filters while I'm there.

And a fire extinguisher maybe...
