Default Clutch problems from new

I've been meaning to ask this for some while.

I got my SK5 brand new last year, and from new there has been an annoying problem with the clutch. Sometimes when I pull the clutch in and push down to change from Neutral to 1st, the bike will not engage 1st until I let out and pull in the clutch.

Is this a common problem? What do I do?

Its really annoying!!

I'd imagine this isn't the clutch but the wonders of a motorcycel gearbox. If there is a load on it it won't always change gear while stationarry the pulling clucth lever again should help, as may rocking the bike back and forth slightly. They all do that sir

FWIW Suzuki gearboxes are generally very slick.

Edit: If the bike is creeping along with the clutch lever pulled in, or slipping under load then the clutch may need adjusting. This can cause shifting problems.

Mine started doing this after 1000miles, if you dont get it into first before coming to a stop it sometimes wont like going into it... gently release the cluth while trying to get itno first and it pops in

It's not a fault, it's to do with the way constant mesh gearboxes work, on occasion when stationary the dogs that engage the gears to each other will be adjacent to one another, if this happens you can just keep a *little* downward pressure on the lever whilst gently easing the clutch out a dab, the gear should go in fine, or usually a brief 'blip' of the throttle will move things enough to allow engagement.
As with all gear selection concerns be certain that clutch adjustment is correct.
