Leccy/starter problem - SV650.org

Never had any electric problems before so was wondering if someone could help - I stopped off at the shops earlier and had had the bike running fine for a couple of short runs today. However, when I got out of the shops I couldn't get it started again, there was just a light, rapid clicking from the bike and at the same time the rev counter would flicker up, but no bite from the starter.

Can anyone help out? I remember reading about something similar but can't remember what it was in relation to!

The rapid clicking is the starter motor relay this happens for a couple of main reasons:

1) The Battery is too low on charge to turn the engine (It takes about 10 miles to recharge from a cold start so enough short runs can leave you short)
2) The connectors to the battery, starter motor relay, or starter motor are loose

Sounds like a 1 from jambo's list to me

A good charge and hopefully it will be fine. An optimate charger could be useful to ensure the battery is topped up continuously.

Thanks for the replies - yeah, that's probably it then, lights and heated grips straight on into the bargain won't have helped!
