Re: A few of my favourite sounds
I may be biased, but my SV with twin Ixils on overrun is a sweet sound....brrrr....pop......pop....brrrrrrrr
A Subaru sounds good, as does a 6-cyl BMW (the older the better, imo), but Italian V8's sound sublime...but the fave? I dunno...I reckon the Italian V8s will win out overall.... |

Queue lots of people posting video's of their own bikes however And here's the first one. After 230 odd miles of twisty roads last Saturday, I was trying to watch the telly, but kept nodding off on the sofa and slipping into a kind of mini dream then waking up again, and all the dream was, was this whine and howl, replayed by my memory over and over again. Does that happen to anybody else after a long spell on the bike? I do wear ear plugs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaVkEhkOcXw Listen to the howl as he goes under the railway bridge at 2m 40s Last edited by -Ralph-; 16-04-11 at 07:52 AM. |

Re: A few of my favourite sounds
Mazda 787/767 at Le Mans in '91, what a sound! A screaming, howling, wailing wall of noise on the throttle, and near silent on the over-run - fantastic.
RG500 hard on the gas, each fire is a pin sharp 'ping' that makes an orchestral symphomy of crackles - emotive noise. BRM V16: So, so much better than the sound of modern GP cars. Panoz: Gutteral, organ shaking burble - complete antithesis of the Mazda. RR Merlin: Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. And it's British by George! Only thing better than that is to hear four at once. At about 200 feet. Regis Laconi's RS3 Cube. DKW split single: The final definition of loud. Napier Sabre: Painful, wonderful. Deltic: Flat, but lovely, big power! Any Funny/Top Fueler: Ground shakes, ears hurt, everything rattles. An all over visceral experience. So many more, I barely knew where to start.

I remember as we entered the circuit there was a guy offering the orange spongy earplugs for £3 a pair, I told him to sod off. About an hour later the first Ferrari went past and there I was back in the queue asking for "a nice £3 pair of ear plugs please". The noise made my entire body vibrate, it was just amazing. |

Re: A few of my favourite sounds
ref :- F1 Renault V6 Turbo, the sound of my youth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vs3F4zFp5c I used to live 5 miles for Silverstone, in a little village called Blakesley, 2 Cobblers Close in the long hot summer days of 1976 ( I was 8 1/2) me and my mate used to cycle over to Silverstone and climb under the fence and watch the practice cars go round... you could hear them for miles so when we heard them we used to tell my mum thats were off to watch the fast cars go round the track... Great days :0) Last edited by Richie; 16-04-11 at 06:35 PM. |
