the minefield that is the new import fees... looks like there is NO low limit on VAT so EVERYTHING you buy from other country's is subject to VAT, this used to be £15. if you buy from outwith the 'partner' nations you will have to pay the VAT yourself... hmm, this might be subject to postal fees and you will have to wait till you get a bill through the door to pay your VAT.

thanks Brexiteers...........

Not allowed to sit on bikes in showrooms... Some dealers may be more sensible but the one I stopped in was having none of it. And they didn't have the model I was interested in trying for size.

My local dealer has a sign on all the bikes - you turn it around when you've sat on it, and someone comes to clean it and turns the sign back round again. So simple, and they've been doing that since they opened last summer.

It's almost as if some dealers are using Covid as an excuse for doing less work - hopefully people will get the message and just go elsewhere.

Yes, I don't remember anybody mentioning that before the referendum!!!
There seem to be an awful lot of disadvantages coming to light about this 'take back control etc, etc ' Brexit situation ! I voted remain but accepted the result, but I still don't see - no ,stop it ,it's a motorcycle forum.

There is a problem with supply, I wanted to try a Honda CMX1100 but my dealer doesn't have one.
If the dealer won't at least let you sit on a bike to get some idea of the fit ,go elsewhere. I can understand a dealer not allowing a test ride until they had some idea you were likely to buy, but funnily enough my local Triumph dealer wanted me to have a test ride to make sure it was the bike I wanted before they would give me a part exchange offer.

The import fees are all screwed up simply because the Government is lazy.

Instead of sticking with the old rules where goods come into the country and the 'Import Dues' are worked out and you settle before delivery, they have set it us so the seller has to register with the UK and with a UK bank to pay the VAT thats included in the price you pay, and the slightly lesser import taxes are thn applied as before.

The issue is that a ;lot of overseas sellers cant be arsed to register and set up banking to pay the VAT owed to the Treasury as its a huge hassle for a small form.

hence the sellers of a lot of niche bike bits are no longer selling to UK and if they dont have distro in UK/Europe yer fecked.
