Default Which Battery charger should I buy?

My aged SV is reluctant to turn over in the cold. If it doesn’t fire first time it struggles to get going at all. Lots of short journeys and long periods between rides are doing it no favours at all. Apart from promising myself to go out for longer rides more often I thought I’d better treat myself to one of those battery conditioners.

There seem to be three popular products. Oximiser, Maximiser and Optimate.

I want to be able to hook it up to an accessible wiring connection when I know I’m not going to be using it for a while and let it look after itself. They all seem to say they can do it, but after a bit of shopping around I found that the Optimate and Maximiser are about twice the price of the Oximiser I assume there may actually be a reason for this.

Anybody got any experience of one or more of these?
Any recommendations?
Anyone know of anywhere doing them for a stupid price?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

Have used optimate before and found it great, does exactly what it says on the box, you get a lead to connect directly to battery terminals and used to have it tucked away under side panel, every night just click connector together (remembering to unplug and replug mains plug to reset it and every morning ready to go, even left it sometimes for a cuople of weeks in middle of winter and never even have to check it.
Would reccommend it

Another vote for the Optimate.

Have also seen another charger called the Accumate, if they're not from the very same production line I'd be amazed - they're identical.

They are not from the same line although they are indeed very very similar. We stock and sell both. Only difference is the Accumate does 6 and 12 volt

Thanks for the responses. I guess the answer is Optimate.

If anyone else has been following this thread and looking to buy one, BaldDood is offering a discount for SV owners, so drop him a PM and save yourselves a few quid.

Cheers,
Mark

I have the Oximiser but have been wondering if its doing what I think its doing...

Do these chargers "use" the battery to keep it healthy or do they just trickle charge the battery once its at its full capacity??
