Default Yamaha Plaza Hamamatsu, Japan

I finally got round to visiting this place. An interesting museum over two floors which, unlike Suzuki, included bikes right up to the present day.
As you go in, the main focus is on the MT09 series with all models since introduction on display.

but there are cars and boat engines too.

Elsewhere on the ground floor, there are lots of GP and race bikes.

And a 50cc two stroke GP machine from 1969

The first floor is a very comprehensive history of Yamaha output from its first bikes to the present day.
This is their first motorcycle, the 125cc YA1 from 1955 aka the red dragonfly.

Followed by the slightly more powerful black dragonfly.

DT1 1968. First 'trail bike'

2 cylinder 2 stroke YD models; road version and scrambler.

And finally, a few oddities for other markets that aren't released in this country.

The Jupiter MX, a kind of hybrid sports moped produced for the Indonesian market. A commuter bike with sports bike handling and performance according to the blurb

The RX King, again for Indonesia incorporating the spirit of gagah.

And a 125cc single cylinder commuter for the Indian market.

Overall, an interesting place to while away a couple of hours. Honda also started out in Hamamatsu and there's a museum on the site of his old workshop to the north of the city but that one is trickier to get to and is more about him and early - not so many bikes. Maybe next time for that one.
Honda has its own museum somewhere, as does Kawasaki but that one's in Kobe.
Depressingly, I wandered into a showroom on the way home. Admittedly the Yen is low against the pound at the moment but a brand new MT07 was £4,500.
Oh, and a final kick in the teeth, petrol is 80p a litre.

Looks amazing.

Love the yellow speed blocks on the KR YZR500.
