Default Another reason I'll be doing my own servicing

Took the DRZ for 600 mile free service today. I get charged £3+VAT for the technicians latex gloves, and £3+VAT for disposing of my old oil.

Now I buy gloves myself, they cost approx £22 for 1000, so £3.50 for 2 is a bit steep, and regarding oil disposal; I pay about 2 grand a year to the council, in return they allow me to take my used oil to the tip for free. ( Jolly nice of them, council tax is such a bargain )

Hey I've saved £7 already on my servicing each time!

Why did you ever not do it yourself if it wasn't free?

EDIT And if you think that's expensive, I work for a land rover garage, trust me, you ain't seen nothing yet

Its the first service, so its kinda free, but they still manage to screw money out of you. - And I know what you mean about Land Rover - our freelander services were more expensive than the Cayenne

Mate of a mate works as a Land Rover Tech... My mate gets his Disco' serviced through the back door for £150, while the usual punters are paying anywhere between £450 to £650

You should pay where I work a visit!

There is £5.00 charge for 'lock-grease'?!
£5.00 for 'Environmental waste disposal'?!
£5.00 for 'Courtesy cars' (And you have to refill the fuel you use!)
Plus vat and the rest of the service costs too!

These are just little ways of lining the owners pockets with a bit more cash, because, believe me we (mechanics) do not see any of this.
They put the labour-rate up 4 times since April 2005,our wages have not increased.
Last year,we got a 12p pay-rise! We are all on less than £11.00/hr (+ bonus,which is un-achievable due to lack of work/organisation)

I know your not,but don't think for one minute the Tech' who worked on your bike/car is ripping you off,it's the dealers themselves! (9/10 Techs anyway!)

Off the top of my head its about £85 an hour labour for freelanders and about £120 for range rover, can't remember discos. Its outrageous, but idiots pay it so meh.

That is crazy!

First hand evidence of people being ripped off!

There is no difference in the work, the mechanics are the same, the Techs' are the same people whether they'te working on a Range rover/Disco/Freeloader(Sorry Freelander)!

I bet the Tech's salary doesn't increase like the labour cost does being dependant on what type/model is being worked on!
