Default Route advice and where to stay???

Hey all.

Having been up to Scotland for GMII or III (cannae remember which it was), and flying in and out of Edi for work every month, it is about time I bought my bike up again to enjoy some more of your ace roads and country side.

I have the week off before Easter, and a free pass to bugger off somewhere on the bike. I will head north from Southampton on Monday 14th April, and am planning on actually being in Scotland on 15/16/17 April before starting to head back south again on the Friday.

Looking for your advice on top roads to ride, and places to stay. I would like to do Glencoe again, and get over to Applecross, but am completely open to your advice and wisdom

Skye could be an option (good excuse to do the FW to Mallaig road again). I would like to get to JOG but I think that will be a bit of a stretch in the limited time I will have.

I will be on my Triumph Explorer so 250-300 miles per day should be doable, but happy to do less to have a bit of time for sightseeing if there is something worth stopping for.

Anywhere else that I must do?

Any suggestions for where to stay?

Anyone around for a ride on any of those days?

Matt

Talking Re: Route advice and where to stay???

I am actually leaving on the same day to do this 3 day run with my nephew. It doesn't go as far as JoG but easy to tag on (not worth it, other than saying you've been and got charged to get a picture taken with the sign) the highlight, if you can fit it in is the road across the top.

Be warned tho' - 2 years ago, at Easter, i got snowed back at Fort William !!!

I am staying at Torguish House, Daviot, courtesy of Motogoloco (Freebie) on the first night. There is a good bunkhouse at Stromeferry, stationmasters house, stayed there a couple of times, even shared a room with 2 SWEDISH GIRLS !!!

I'd say you've gotta do the Glenelg Ferry when you're coming back to the mainland from Skye. I know I harp on about it. But its a beautiful wee ferry and the views when you get to the end of the road at Loch Duich are out of this world.

+1 re JoG
Went there after Applecross weekend last year ( because it was fairly close ) and was totally underwhelmed. Didn't even stop the engine.

That looks pretty spot on for a route. I have tweaked it a bit so I think my itinerary will now be:

Monday ride from Southampton to Lake District
Tuesday Lakes to Dunoon
Wednesday Dunoon to Mallaig via Oban
Thursday Mallaig to Inverness via Skye and Applecross
Friday Inverness to Lake District via Aviemore, Glen Coe, then back down the A82
Saturday head back south

Not sure if there is an opportunity to meet up anywhere, if not just give me a wave as you go by

If it looks like the weather is going to be be **** then I will go for plan b and just jump on the tunnel to France...

Slight change of plans, have booked in at the Macdonald at Kinlochleven from Tuesday night to Thursday

have planned a run to Applemore via Oban on Wednesday (320 miles), and then a loop round the Cairngorms (300 miles) on Thursday before heading back down south on Friday.

Overall trip will be about 1760 miles over 6 days!
