thinking about and SV
hey you all i am new here!!
right now thats out the way i was thinking about getting an 03 SV650 to replace my modded gs500 which is getting a bit tyred after 10 years an engine/clock change leaving me thinking the from has done about 80,000 miles. i do about 20,000 miles year on 2 wheels (i dont have or want a car licence) so need some thing that is reliable and cheap. i was going to go for a hornet but the insurance was a bit more than i wanted to be!!! so yeh i am already looking at mods even before i ahve bought the machine, heres' a list of what i have done to my 500 and then i will give you some idea of what i think i may need to do to my SV in future, then please tell me if you think i am mad or if there is something else that need doing. GS500 mods: Progresive fork springs (reduces dive with heavy braking) stiffened front and rear shock 4 pot brembo front claiper with stock 310 rotor sports exhuast K&N air filter Up jetteted (i run it rich too) 5 degree ignitions adavnce high brughtness head light 140DB truck horn (run throught a realy due to 20amp drain) what i think need doing: Progressive fork springs 310 front brake disc brembo calipers (yeh i like to know i can stop) exhuast power commander air filter if i got this in the wrong place just shout at me and i will ask a mod to move it for me, any ideas would be cool or if you dont think some are needed just say and i can make adjustments as needed, thanks |

Re: thinking about and SV
i was told that the GS500 didnt need better brakes, but it feels much better with them. oh the power commander isnt so much to give it more power but to make it more ride-able in certian conditions, a bit like over fueling the gs to make it better around town.
thanks for the input i will drop those things down the list onto the to-do when i have run out of other things to do. |

Re: thinking about and SV
I'd agree if you repspring the front end you can get the best out of the standard brakes which arent really that bad.
Mind you if you are used to brembo's you might find them a bit lacking. the best ever mod I made on my SV was replacing the can, made me smile every time I rode it. At the end of the day you dont need to do any of those things, but if you want to personalise it, hell go for it.

Re: thinking about and SV
hello
why not keep the brakes off the GS for the SV? (if they fit?) you will also need a fender extenda (lenthens the front mudgaurd to stop carp getting to front spark plug and crashbungs are always handy |

Re: thinking about and SV
thanks for the idea about the fender extrnder, i think thats gonna be a must. the GS still only has one disc, but i did buy the calipers as a pair soi still have both, i will most likely use the one of the calipers of the SV on the GS (they have the same caliper) and then use the brembos on the SV once i have some 310 rotors

Re: thinking about and SV
Welcome...
a fender extender and a tin of ACF-50 are the first things to get. The SV's brakes are good, more than enough, only the suspenders really let the SV down when you start pushing. |
