Re: sv1000's are now ULEZ exempt
Chances are....if the V5 doesn't show the nOX level, neither will the C.O.C (that acronym gives me the shivers). So I'm not sure it's worth someone stumping up the £95 (plus it takes ages as it's paperwork dug out from an archive in Japan, then shipped to your dealer).
Maybe if a few of you got together and split the cost, it'll be worth the risk.

Re: sv1000's are now ULEZ exempt
My 650 k6 on the V5 is ok for CO2 and NOX figures, however it fails on the HC figure when compared with Euro3. Are they only concerned with NOX ? The twin plug has a cleaner burn and was probably brought out to achieve Euro3 or better.

They're only concerned with NOx at the moment. I imagine this'll get tighter over the years.
So you should be all good...on your commute...from Swansea

Re: sv1000's are now ULEZ exempt
Thankfully it will never cause me an issue, but it's all interesting stuff. It only takes some cretin of a Mayor who want's to make a name for himself or herself to cause havoc. I wonder if they will exempt classic / veteran cars and bikes. Several big cities are looking to ban them. If they are exempt then drag the old bantam out , dust it off and make smoke.

I can see why people are upset about this, but think about it - anything that can help lower pollution is surely a good thing, no matter how ill thought out it is.

Quote:
People ride old bikes into London because they're cheap. They barely cause any congestion and the pollution is limited because they're not diesel and the journey times tend to be shorter. And as you've pointed out, you can be riding a perfectly compliant bike and still not be allowed to ride it in London until you cough up for a document. That shouldn't be on us.

Re: sv1000's are now ULEZ exempt
Hi again.
I mean this in the nicest possible way - but don't be fooled into thinking diesels are any worse than motorcycles. The SV1000 puts out 0.14g/km NOX, my friends 2 litre turbo diesel people carrier puts out 0.075. So considerably less. Don't forget, we don't have cats and older bikes are less efficient in the name of easier power delivery. I choke like hell when I'm stuck behind an older CBR for example, my VFR750 absolutely stinks (it's running fine, believe me)...so there's not much weight in a car being any worse than a bike.

Re: sv1000's are now ULEZ exempt
NOX, nor CO2, are the full story. Diesels are terrible on particulates, which will be the next public health scare.
Bikes, in the grand scheme of things, have little impact. Banning the old ones is almost pointless, and very unfair on those with less money. The only reason diesels were ever encouraged, was their lower CO2 output, sadly this was at the expense of public health, which they are now discovering (they were warned in the mid 90's about it, but as usual they ignored the scientific advice....) |

Re: sv1000's are now ULEZ exempt
We could go round in circles all day about how it's cruel/not unfair. Either way, it's a standard that some vehicles don't meet - therefore they're subject to a charge. Personally I think they should be outright banned.
