Huggers to recommend / avoid?
Hi. I'm sure there are threads about this already but search is not turning up much for me apart from old for sale threads.
About to get a hugger for my K8 pointy and thought I'd see if anyone has any brand they'd recommend or anything to avoid? I was looking at the Red Fox ones through their site, probably along with a fender extender. Is there anything to keep in mind such as brittle materials or makes to avoid? Ease of installation better with some than others? All part of trying to make me less precious about my SV and get out and ride it more not worrying about water and dirt. Cheers. |

Re: Huggers to recommend / avoid?
My old bike (pointy K6) has a Red Fox hugger. Down side is that it sits on top of the swinging arm at the front if you understand what I mean, rather than extending down below. It's also now split at the chain guard portion, but that could be abuse on my part.
The one on the new bike extends below the swinging arm, but I don't think there's a maker's mark on it. |

Re: Huggers to recommend / avoid?
I've used Pyramid huggers and fender extenders (pyramid buy the extenders from the same company that skidmarx do) on both my bikes and they've been fine.

Fitted pyramid 'carbon fibre' look hugger on my AL7 and was easy to fit and looks pretty cool.

Re: Huggers to recommend / avoid?
My Powerbronze hugger has corrosion welded itself to the bike, but is still in one piece at least. To remove it I will have to drill the fasteners out...

Re: Huggers to recommend / avoid?
dont bother. huggers are only good if mud gets on the shock, well the K8 already has a flap that extends from the tool box so no mud gets on the shock.
underside of seat.. ermm well thats what the big bit of black plastic is for. same goes for those stupid tail tidy things.. waste of bloody time and money if you ask me. waste of money. spend it on service items instead. front crap flap YES those are a must on an SV. |

Cheers. I did wonder why it was needed when the flap is already where it would be! The tail tidy was fitted by the previous owner along with all bolts replaced with red anodized ones! He wasted his money so I don't have to ! Will get the front fender extender for now and avoid the extra cost of the rear. £95 saved, cheers ! |

Re: Huggers to recommend / avoid?
Just put a hugger on mine as I saw the mess left behind on the rear swingarm and underside of the exhaust after a wet ride. I'm hoping for less next time I'm out. This should allow me to sleep at night when I dont jet wash after a ride.
Have you seen the cack on the underside of a the snow plough and numberplate yuk

Re: Huggers to recommend / avoid?
The one on the new bike is Pyramid. It continues down past the swinging arm at the front, which is how I prefer it. The disadvantage is it fixes on the right hand side with a rather naff clamp around the swinging arm. I decided I couldn't bear that so I've made a bracket to sit on top of the arm secured under the brake hose guide.
