Claiming on Helmet & Leathers policy
I had a letter through from the insurer asking for a statement from a "Motorcycle Specialist" that the helmet was beyond economic repair (!).
My local dealer from whom I bought the lid- Tippetts Honda stated (quite rightly I think) that if a lid has been in a crash, it should be replaced and also that helmets are not repaired. Also, that there is no way of testing if the protective polystyrene layer inside the lid is damaged or not. So- I think I'm going to have fun and games with this. Anyone had experience of this? Suggestions? Ta Donal |

Re: Claiming on Helmet & Leathers policy
Write back to them stating that, addmittedly you are no expert on the matter and you are only following advice from people in the trade. Tell them that you are happy to use the helmet again if they will not replace it, however you need it in writing from them that the helmet is serviceable. Explain that if they deem it to be safe then you will be prepared to carry on using it but if it fails in a future accident you will hold them responsible.
It would be interesting to see what they would say to that. |

Re: Claiming on Helmet & Leathers policy
I claimed for a helmet on insurance before, just went to the shop I bought it from and they did me a quick letter on headed paper that it was beyond repair. That was enough for the insurance company.

Re: Claiming on Helmet & Leathers policy
I've claimed before but the company I used replaces lids as a matter of policy.
Usually a small excess to pay and away you go with your new kit. |

Re: Claiming on Helmet & Leathers policy
How about creating your own Motorcycle Helmet shop along with it's own headed paper?

Quote:
Agree with what else has been said - just get a dealer to do a quick note on headed paper saying it was beyond repair.

Re: Claiming on Helmet & Leathers policy
Apparently, Arai can only ultrasound the shell- they can't measure damage to the polystyrene- and I've heard they don't offer the service any more...
