Hello all,
For the April issue of Performance Bikes we are going to do a suspension set-up guide on the mighty SV650S k3/k4. It's such a popular bike, I have one and the fact that we haven't done one on this bike yet is the reasoning. Unlike most of the bike we set-up, there is hardly any adjustment on the SV. Just preload each end, meaning we can only set the sag up beautifully. So the stance I plan to take on it is to set-up as standard and then do some cheap and easy suspension mods that don't blow the bank. Just to see how it affects the bike. Richard from Maxton suspension is going to come and fit some dog legs to the bike and some stiffer fork springs tomorrow. To prove what an easy mod these are, we're making him fit these at the side of the test track. I'd like it if some of you can give me an insight into your K3/K4 SV650 knowlege by telling me what you have done to the suspension on your bike and why. Maybe emailing me a few words and a picture of you and your bike. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you. Luke Brackenbury Performance Bikes luke.brackenbury@emap.com p.s. I'm racing in NG Roadracing Mini Twins this year. The SV is going to make an awesome track weapon! |

It's just one of those things you have to accept to some degree. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Mind you, saying that... I'll probably have had my front spring replaced & new oil plus, (hopefully) I'll have fitted the GSXR 1000 rear shock by then ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Option 1: Stiffer springs and heavier oil.
Option 2: Stiffer springs, heavier oil and RaceTech cartridge emulators. Option 3: R6 race cartridges, stiffer springs and lighter oil. Don't forget the obligatory Ohlins on the back ![]() |

My twopenn'th:
Forks: stiffer springs and preload adjusters (if not as stock): £70-100. As for weight and oil, Guru Elmer says: http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.ph...r=asc&start=15 i.e. thicker not always better. Next step would be emulators as Mike1234 says: £100. Back end: dogbones (£15), then after that you're into new shock territory and that means ££. Tyres: anything but stock |
