Zx6r 636 shocks - SV650.org

I know that years 06-07 with the non perpendicular reservoir fit pointy SVs but do later ones of the same design, 2013 for example?

the rez must be 90deg to fit a pointy. everything depends on your weight/hight though.

a cheep secondhand shock from another bike might sound like its a good deal but its also a minefield. how many miles have been put on the shock, is the spring rate the correct one. if a secondhand shock has any more than say 20k on it then it needs a service so thats another £100 then the right spring for your weight and its another £60 then a revalve.

ok so at the end of it you do get a nice tripple clicker for not much dosh.

there is no point just chucking a shock from another bike on till you tell us what you weigh in your birthday suit. if the spring rate is too heavy it could be worse than the standard shock.

I'm averagely 10st 2-3. Tried to Google the specs on more modern zx6r but not found much

at 10st none of the socks of other bikes will fit properly without a respring.

YSS do a nice shock for £290 that is the same spec as the nitron road. the comp will be shimed for the SV rear linkage rate and then its just fiddling with the rebound. i think you will have to ask if the proper spring rate is included in price.

BTW the pointy does not like a stiff back end and turns the bike very very skittish.

Might go weigh myself, not done it in a while. I've looked at the YSS ones they seem a good option and in reality probably not much more expensive

TBH the OEM pointy shock is not that bad if your light. its only lardarzez that complain.

yes the valving is a bit shizz but unless its got more then 20k on it then it will be fine for 10st. the only difference you will notice with an aftermarket shock is the rebound is better. if you ride mostly pothole riddled back roads then yes an aftermarket shock will give benefits but if you ride mainly decent A roads then you wont feel much difference. its only when you start to pick the pace up and start doing silly things like trail braking and such is where it comes into play.

the pointy SV like a compliant suspension, turn it too stiff and it starts misbehaving over potholes and such.

its the front end of the SV that is the weak point but you have sorted that.
