always wearing the riding gear.
I am an advocate of always wearing the riding gear regardless of how hot it is. I wear textile padded jacket and trousers but over the last few weeks I'm losing my will to wear the gear.
What do you guys do? Wear the gear or give it a miss in the heat. Last edited by cringer; 09-07-10 at 10:13 PM. |

I always wear the gear. You may get hot and sweaty, but you can't put your skin back on.

Re: always wearing the riding gear.
I use the light weight leather option, it does still offer some protection, but is nice and cool, especially on the motorway. Thin gloves, jacket and textile trousers, makes for a happy Jayney

Re: always wearing the riding gear.
Recommend the Draggin jeans.
And for some strange reason they're cooler than ordinary jeans. Maybe the kevlar creates an air gap between denim and skin.

Normally, yes. But it was 37C in France and I took my lightweight textile mesh stuff. It was ideal. I had leathers for the way there and home for the autoroute. I cooked.

Re: always wearing the riding gear.
I used to be in the habit years ago on my old gpz of riding in Doc Martens and jeans for short trips.
Having been ****ted a couple of months ago, at a fairly lowspeed of 20 mph ish by a car changing lanes, I am convinced that if I'd not been in my pretty chunky Frank Thomas style walking style boots with very thick soles and armour over the ankle, I might well have broken it. Having had a chance to access how damaged my leather trousers were after a very short slide of only a few inches (felt further) with my weight and the bike on top of me, and how everywhere there was no padding/armour, there was bruising, frankly, I don't think I'll ever ride again without decent leathers with at least good soft armour in, and ditto the jacket - I use a bering textile jacket with a removable bodywarmer, which is out for summer. To be honest, you can't tell when someone will do something thats not your fault, and like insurance, decent kit is only a benefit felt for a few seconds when you really need it. The several years between accidents all become redundant when I think I'd still be hobbling on crutches, in pain, but as it is, I just have some residual swelling and stiffness only. It would have been so much worse, and thats a low speed impact. Although it felt like being chucked by the hand of god into the side of a skip.
