Chipped tank options.

I rather stupidly chipped my tank whilst stripping the front end for a bar conversion last night, had the tank protector on all day, took it off when finished, came back and thought I'd take off one of the headlamp brackets to see where to cut and weld it.. So I pulled and it didn't move.. Pulled harder.. It went flying up in the air and came down on the tank

So my late perfect bike has 3 small chips on the tank.. I'm gutted..

So what would people suggest to fix, does anybody do chip repair pens for Suzuki colours that don't look crap?

Spot repair, respray, vinyl, carbon, new tank..?

What would those who have been there before suggest.

Feel your pain. I had a passing car fling a stone which ricochet off my tank. Tiny little chip right on the top. ****ed me off for ages. Then I forgot to hate it and it adds to the general patina of my all weather bike.

My amateur approach;
If the chips are down to bare metal I would get something in there as a stop gap whilst planning a repair. Cellulose red oxide primer which can be applied with a very small brush is what I would reach for, the idea being to stop rust forming. Apply a few layers into the chip, leaving to dry between each dab. That will limit the damage and give you some breathing space. Cellulose can always be removed later with some cellulose thinners if necessary.

If you can find the correct touch up colour you can build up the paint in the chip to the correct level before cutting with a cloth wrapped around a flat object and t cut to get a reasonable repair.

Any painting best done in temperatures over +10C.

I've used ColorRite (www.ColorRite.com) and the color match is pretty good.

Google your colour code and touch up pen, there's plenty available and the decent ones will come with the colour, any pearlesent type coat and a clear coat.

Good tip. Good choice of colours too!

Reminded me of breaking down in my mini in heavy rain years ago. Ignition problem traced to a crack in the coil insulation which was sorted by some nail varnish. The car ran fine until I could get a new coil.

Yup, nail varnish. Had that on my old pointy for ages for a chip in the tank.
