Hey guys. I've been searching all this morning through the rear shock threads but I'd like some clarification.
From what I've read some people are saying that a zx6r shock is a fairly simple install for a curvy, whilst others are saying its too stiff, etc. So what I'd like to know is which year zx6r shock fits an 02 sv650s? Also there was some mention of modifying the battery tray, is that necessary for the zx6r shock? Any detail about what needs to be done/link to said detail? And what other shocks from other bikes (models and years please!) would fit an 02 sv650s? FYI I'm 82kg and about 6ft. Cheers lads ![]() |

I've done some more reading and I've found people saying that its the 2005 zx6r that fits 99-02 sv650s, can anyone confirm this? And apparently the zx10r is also good for said years?
Thanks |

The rear shock may still be a little hard for you, but it'll be so differant to the soggy SV shock that it'll be hard to tell! Should offer some improvment over the stock shock, and should have enough adjustment to refine the set up to suit your needs. I dont think you need to modify the curvy battery tray, i think this only applies to pointies...but someone will be along whos actualy done it to give you a better answer

At 13 odd stone, I doubt that the zx-6 shock will be too 'stiff'. I weigh in at 14.5 so went for a zx10 shock as that has a stronger (of stiffer if you will) spring than the zx6-r shock.
fitment was easy but the battery box needed to be cut away to allow the piggy back reservoir on the shock to have room. Simple to do and easy to bodge. Apart from that you will need a new bottom bolt as the curvey shock has a thread to accept the bolt, but the zx10/zx6 needs a nut on the end. After fitting, I set it up with 35 mm of sag with me on the bike (in gear) and it was so much better! You can feel the damping doing it's thing and making the bike track more smoothly over the bumps - ace! If you go for a better shock, you will have to sort out the front as well ![]() HTH |

Thanks for that. Yes the front end has priority, getting emulators/oil and springs set up for me. I will be pillioning an undetermined amount (can't actually ride my sv for another month and full license that will come with that time). But I'm getting service + braided lines + front suspension done in a few weeks so I figure I might save some bucks getting everything done at the same time.
So Lucky, the zx10r shock fits on your curvy, so what year is that? Would I be correct in saying that a 2005 zx6r shock would fit an 02 sv650s? Thanks again. |

Thanks for the table, I've seen it a few times but I can't really understand it
![]() So are you saying an 05/06 shock won't fit? |

Sounds like you are setting your curvey up a lot like mine, solo and pillion. The mods work great, make sure that you set the preload spaces in forks such that your pre-load adjustor fork caps have plenty of adjustment to increase pre-load to help with the pillion weight. |

The 05/06 shock is a better fit and a much better shock, but whether the spring rates and valving are anything close to suitable I'm not sure. I've got one in teh garage and drew's offered to let me have a go, but to be honest I can't be bothered to fit it
