Default Speed awareness; who to contact?

Got stopped a few weeks ago for doing 68 (average) in a 50. Not as bad as it sounds, it was a dual carriageway which was reduced to 50 because of one incident 6 years ago.

Mr Policeman was OK, he stopped me before the long straight, where to use his words "there was a danger that we might have been discussing a higher figure than 68", "No officer, I would never go that fast on a public highway ".
We had a chat and he offered the speed awareness instead of points. I've heard they are OK and not a complete waste of time.

That was 3 weeks ago, not heard anything else since. Didn't get any paperwork at the time. How long do these take to come through?

Who do I contact? Don't want to end up with points if the post office can't deliver a letter to the right address.

My understanding is that you have received a verbal NIP. They therefore have 6 months to decide what they are going to do with you.

sounds obvious mate but i did this with mine
google for speed awarness course (your area)
i phoned them directly and spoke to the people that run the course
they are civi's not assoiated with the police so no issues with telling them you got pulled ,got told you'd be offered a course but no paperwork at all has come thru
they are given a list of future possible attendee's so can check that, if your not on there leave them your details and ask if your name does appear will they give a call, genrally in my experiance they were sound so should be happy to
my letter came up 2 days later and i phoned back with the guy steve laughing saying he was expecting my call ,as it hit his desk 30 mins before and he'd already squared me a place on the next course
if that dont work in outta ideas bud

Don't worry, it's not up to you to chase the course. The officers are given guidelines as to what their options are at various speeds. Yours comes above the "ticking off/advice" level and within the "eligible for a speed awareness course" provided you haven't had one already in the last three years..... The procedure for the speed awareness course is that they report you for summons, then fill in a report form back at the station that goes into the system and eventually gets referred, as DP has said, to the right department. If the officer forgets to put the form in then you won't hear anything from anybody so don't panic. The only time it will revert to process (ie: points for you) is if you aren't eligible, or the speed was outside the parameters.

Daft thing is, I can't even offer a speed awareness course in GMP.

The local camera partnership do, but not the Cops on the street.

That's interesting Pete, do they intercept tickets then and offer a course instead or do peeps just not get the chance if nabbed by you?

No second chance. Our speed threshold for FPN's in a 30 is usually around 41mph. Occasionally, it'll be a few mph lower.

I'll stop and have a chat with people who don't slow down but who are under the threshold - I'm 6"2' in a yellow coat and white hat and if you don't see me and think for a moment, then you need a word.

I only do enforcement on a very few roads, mostly at school start times, often standing next to the lollipop person. I don't have a problem dosing someone driving towards that at over 40mph.

Me neither, I just wondered how your speed awareness course process worked. Seems like it's closed shop to only those nabbed by static cameras?
