Carb Balancing - SV650.org

Going to balance my carbs at the weekend and before any smart alec says eat more protein, I will say it first.

Got some gauges etc and it looks simple enough! Lift tank, remove right hand fairing panel, move rad forward, remove airbox, connenct up gauges. I hope it is that simple.

But on top of that I want to plumb in some extra hose so I don't have to go through all of that palarver again. I need some hose and some T pieces. Few questions.

What bore size hose do I need to connect up to the vacuum on the carbs?
Where can I get some from?
Where can I get the T pieces from?

Any help really appreciated.

According to the book, it says the carbs should be balanced with the airfilter housing removed anyway.......

Yeah, thats easy to do. Having to pull your bike apart to connect the gauges up is the bugger. Just want to avaid doing this all the time.

Why are you moving the Rad ?

didn't do that when Swiss T and Viney helped me do mine last weekend ?

Just moving it forward a tad to make it easier to get to the vacuum pipe. Not taking it off, just loosening to hinge it forward.

How long did it take you incidentally to balance your carbs?

As Ian said, you can do it all after taking the airfilter off. No need to touch the fairing or rad.

Need to get the fairing and rad moved this weekend anyway as I am changing plugs etc.

I am surprised you had enough space to get to the vacuum pipes on the carbs going in from the top. You must have womens hands!

Seriously, it is not the process of doing it I am concerned with. I think I can do that. It is the PIPE AND T PIECES I WANT.

Nah no need to remove the fairing... just remove the 2 rear bolts on each pannel and pop the lugs out and swing the rad forward. Did this when I replaced the spark plugs.

It takes me about 5 minutes to balance them after getting the tank up and all that.

Scoobs, since you haven't asked I'll volunteer some info on pipe and T-pieces.

I got a selection of bits from a car scrap yard for a few quid, you'll find older cars tended to have all sorts of vac pipes and fittings on carbs, distributors etc. Anything attached to carbs on cars will be fuel compatible. The stuff I used is 4mm bore thick wall black rubber, probably nitrile or chloroprene or similar. Silicone is not really ideal for petrol, it has only limited resistance.

...and yes, I've fitted the extension tube to the front carb as you are suggesting, and no you're not a complete dipstick for doing it!
