what solvent and sealant?
When removing the valve/rocker covers, Mr Haynes says

I was under the impression that they have a rubber seal, if thats the case, then i wouldnt use a sealent. However, i have never taken them off so dont know for sure.

The way that Haynes describe it, I think they want you to peel of the rubber gasket, clean off the old sealant, put fresh sealant on, and seat the gasket back into place. I guess from the replies that most people just leave the gasket in place when removing the cover and avoid resealing it.

It is a gasket, by definition it does not need sealing unless there is something wrong with it.

Pretty sure they have some sort of sealant on from the factory- I remember the drescents being pretty stuck. I just peeled the old muck off and reinstalled dry, worked just fine.
