Pointy air intake upgrade
Going to be sticking some SV1000 TB's on my 650 race bike soon, and thinking about upgrading the air intake to keep the air pressure through the oversize TB bore.
I have seen people talk about the 'Renegade Kit' which removes the air box completely. As renegade are no longer trading, I was looking to see how else people have managed to get the RAM air? I was looking into making a fiberglass custom air box with POD filters in them, but this is alot of work that i'm seeing If i can avoid.. Cheers. |

Re: Pointy air intake upgrade
You can bodge a Renegade style kit by just removing the airbox lid and using some washers to hold the filter in place if I remember rightly it's just a frame that fits over the filter so you can screw it down.

Re: Pointy air intake upgrade
I don't know how feasible it is to bodge up a ram-air / hoover pipe style of feed to the airbox, these can work if done right:

Re: Pointy air intake upgrade
simple. sv1000 air box.
lets get real here you might gain maybe 5-6 hp more with the 1k TB's and even then i'm sceptical. your still only sucking 650cc of air and fuel mix. you might be better off getting the ecu mapped properly and gearing for each track. dropping the top speed say 10mph but getting there quicker. your better reaching top speed in the middle of a straight rather than the end. |

Thanks for the replies!
I think removing the lid off the stock 650 air box might not be enough to keep the pressure through the larger bodies. 1000 air box sounds like the way forward maybe, but does this fit inside the 650 frame etc? I have raise the tank which might help. |

Re: Pointy air intake upgrade
If I remember right the SV1000 airbox is the same as the pointy 650's, it's certainly the same filter element for both bikes.
I believe the only difference is the intake snorkel (much bigger on the 1000, but will swap into the 650 airbox without needing any modification) and the rubbers that connect to the throttle bodies. |
