Default Science Jobs - help?

I'm going to start looking for a job in the chemistry industry, but I don't know where to begin. I was hoping to have a PhD confirmed by now, but that is looking less and less likely - all to do with avaliability of funding, which dosn't seem to be avaliable it is taking what feels like a long time to get confirmed

So where should I start? What websites? Nature jobs isn't very usefull, there is no good search engine so its difficult to find suitable jobs. I'll look at new scientist jobs when their website is up and running, its down at the moment. Is anyone aware of any businesses / companies in the london area that deal with chemistry?

Cheers,

Matt

Totaljobs.com or Jobsite are quite good for science jobs, both permanent and temp ones. Both myself and my hubby have used them and he recently got a new job after applying through one of the job sites.

Good luck with your search and sorry about the PhD not looking likely

Check out the HPA website we may have some jobs in Collindale. You could always try any of the Uni's in London they often have jobs going.

what sort of science job are you after? research? if not research then theres a lot of jobs in scientific sales and support, or even recruitment.

As for the funding, hand in there, these things take longer than you think for funding to be confirmed. Thats the problem at the moment though, many people are anti students, so funding is reduced, and so less PhDs are available. which in the long term provides a lot of the best research in science.

I have some more but the links are on my desktop at home.

are you willing to provide some investment for the initial start up

Sam - yea, i'll look there...their website seems to be down when i click on links to it though.

James - I primarily want a job working in a lab as a research / development / synthetic chemist (a bench monkey!). I've found some job vacancies on totaljobs (thanks amanda) so I'm applying for those. I'll most certainly hold out for the PhD though, because its very interesting (organic semiconducting polymers for use in photovoltaic cells) and i would love to do a PhD anyway, as that qualification would help me somewhat to becoming a lecturer in my own right later in life.

Thanks everyone for everything so far

Matt
