Default EU working time directive, my new best friend.

Just been called out to work at half 5 until 8. Under EU working time directive now i get 11 hours clear break which means no work for me today.

Does anyone else love this working time directive?

No it's a pain in the **** when you need to get stuff done, up until recently work was more flexible about it but for some reason they now insist the 11 hours is taken immediatly. It's causing all sorts of hassle.

I have to opt out of it. Test match week I work 7am to 9pm or later 8 days in a row and I'm on call in he time in between, often getting calls at 6am or 11pm.

well from a management stand point it is but so far from my 1st week of callouts i've missed 20 hours at least of working.

Hmmm, according to us, the 11 hours rule doesn't work for call outs or overtime, you are only entitled to 11 hours between rostered shifts.

well from a calloutee point of view it's brilliant. I've got a day off for getting up an hour earlier than i was planning to for work. Plus 2.5 hours overtime.

The 11 hour break isn't compulsory, but it must be compensated for within a certain period of weeks. That is, paid time off to compensate. With our staff, any hours worked within the 11 hour break are paid double time instead.

I have to opt out of it...
And bank holidays, and local holidays...
And overtime is not time and a half, only time...

Gotta love the oil industry.

Police are exempt anyway. It becomes a guidline which means its unenforcable.
