Default Traders insurance policies - what's the full script?

right im starting to wonder if its worth me getting a traders policy for myself
reasons being
it seems to be costing me a fortune (25-55 quid a pop) to add bikes ,
change regs (same make model different bike),
be hit by mong drivers and needing different transport quick
changing cars
and the constant breaking ,crashing, liking shiney different ones of both

so riddle me this
can you get a car and bike traders policy together
do you need a registered busness to get one
how much more expencive is it in reality (taking into account seperate bike and car policies)
would i be fully comp on all vehicles
could i add the wife as a named driver
is there anything i really need to concider that i have overlooked

cheers
dave

ps i know there are bits and bats about this all over the org, im looking for a more definate complete answer with all aspects covered

This may seem obvious to most people David but have you asked an insurance company?

can you get a car and bike traders policy together - YES
do you need a registered busness to get one - I believe so (but you can be a sole trader)
how much more expencive is it in reality (taking into account seperate bike and car policies) loads and the excess is extortinate my mates is £2000.
would i be fully comp on all vehicles - Yes but the excess makes it unecomonical to claim on most things
could i add the wife as a named driver - You can add employees, so if your wife is an employee

You can get a sole trader policy that'll cover you to drive and ride anything.

However.

You will be saying to the insurance company that you are a motor trader. You will have to prove you buy and sell vehicles if required. If you can't, your screwed. I deal a lot with sole traders, or those who claim they are and who haven't bought or sold a vehicle in years. In every circumstance, the insurance company refuse cover and it's bye bye car!

It used to be an easy way of getting a policy and the companies would cover anything. Not any more. It's just too expensive when claims start coming in.
