Default Pressure sensitive laffic trights - not biker friendly?

This subject has come up before, think the essence of the other thread was you would have to dismount and walk the bike across. I know real safe huh.

This thread reminds me of something we used to do in the bad old days. There was a set of lights on our patch that defaulted to greens on the main road and only changed when a vehicle was detected on the minor road. If it was quiet on nights we would stop the patrol car just short of the sensor and when we saw something approaching along the main road move forward at just the right time to trigger the lights and leave the approaching driver in the "do I, don't I" situation. Was never nasty enough to stick on anybody who did but caught loads of drink drivers that way!

Slightly evil but if it got drunk drivers locked up then fine with me!

Allegedly, my dad would open the control box and change the lights manually (usually at the bottom of flyover slip roads), that way the patrol car could be in place down the road for the pull. Allegedly.

I'd be inclined to report it to the relevant authority (highways agency or local council) as soon as, so you've got a defence in line with what the fishy one said above.

Ive had a similar thing leaving a bike lock up that uses traffic lights that are controlled by cars leaving the adjacent car park with their ticket. Either wait for a car or run the red light, they are a bit of a poor design...
