Time for a new rear!
Currently got pirelli diablo's front and back but my rear needs replacing, will probably change front too.
I commute on the bike every day so certainly ride in the wet! The wet performance of the diablo's has plummeted recently, get a lot of wheelspin, squirming and sliding on a couple of occasions which I can't say is nice! I like getting the bike over and use up to the last cm of the tyre so would like something sticky but I do quite a bit of motorway miles so don't want them to square off. In all then I need a bit of an all rounder but thought I'd call on your collective experience! Looks like there are a fair few options too! Thanks in advance all

Re: Time for a new rear!
This tyre lark is confusing. Think I've narrowed it down to Avon Storms, Michelin somethings or Pirelli somethings. The model names get a bit tedious! Any opinions?

Re: Time for a new rear!
I can help by saying dont buy Bridgestone BT021's
They are horrible, no real feed back, wet weather grip is not that great although they do seem to warm up eventually. They dont seem to like high speed, I did a quick blast the other day to get home on a hot day and they literally seemed to be falling to bit. Unfortunately they do seem to be lasting ok though.

Re: Time for a new rear!
I've seen bad things about them, I'd pretty much factored out bridgestone as a result. Aren't the BT021's the OEM tyre?

Re: Time for a new rear!
I've just seen a set of Pilot Road 2's get used to very good effect for 2500 miles with little noticeable wear. The Maxxis Supermaxx Sports I have on also are nice and sticky and seem to be wearing very well. And they're cheap.

Get some Pirelli Angel STs and you'll love the feel of the bike!

Re: Time for a new rear!
avon storms, great in the wet/dry. only thing i have noticed they don't like are those misty/greasy roads.. mine have never ever let go in the wet. but i dont push that hard when its wet. have on ocassion taken the bike over more than i would have liked to and they have never stepped out on me, a little squirmy but never fully let go.

Re: Time for a new rear!
I use avon storms they're a winter/tourer tyre so good in the wet but lots of people hammer them.... I finds them nice and sticky

Re: Time for a new rear!
Michelin Piolt Road 2CT - just been out to scrub these in on the GSXR, started raining after 3km, still managed to bed in the brand new discs/pads, impressed with them in the damp, only chirped the front once during the brake bed in process.
Off to test them round the Alps, will report back on how they handle a sports bike. |

Re: Time for a new rear!
Cool, cheers buddy. Think I can get pilots pretty cheap so if they're good in the wet I'm happy
