Hi all,
I've got a '99 Fazer 600 which I've been riding for the month since I've passed my test. I'm clearly not riding the bike anywhere near its capabilities, but on the occasions that I nail it (usually a big long straight!) its pretty quick (to me anyway). I've always liked the look of the SV though, and have got an open slot booked with the local Suzuki dealer to take out an SV650S in the next 2 or 3 weeks, weather etc depending. How is it going to feel different on the SV? I like the idea of the torquey V-twin but have never experienced it. On paper the bikes seem to stack up quite evenly against each other. Cheers fatneck |

My first big bike was a Fazer 600 same year as yours.
The fazer is a very good bike and is a faster bike than the sv. Better to test ride a twin as some people like it but alot hate it and cant ride them right. My advice would be to hold on to the fazer and get a bit more experience before you spend a lot of money on a SV. Both the Fazer and the SV are budget bikes so why not run around on the Fazer for a while and then in the future buy a nice bike when you have a bit more road time under your belt. |

My opinion, is the SV will look better than your 99 Fazer, but a new Fazer looks better than an SV.
The Fazer is faster as well, personally i would not move to an SV as my second bike. |

My plan is to do as Fatster suggests - hold on to the Fazer until I'm ready to move on. So that then leads me to my next question...the SV1000S - how does that stack up as a second bike?
I may be selling the Fazer back to the girlfriend when she passes her test, which might force me into needing another bike. Gutted ![]() |

Horses for courses.
When I was looking at buying my first 'big' bike I sat on old and new versions of bikes including Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki. The SV ticked all the boxes and 0% over 3yrs helped finalise the decision. I am more than chuffed with it. I recommend test riding as many bikes as possible. |

My ex started riding on a 125 Marauder which she did about 18K miles on, passed her test then got a Bandit 650. That did her fine for nearly 20K miles until she px'd it against a Daytona 600. She didn't keep the Daytona long, only about 6 months, then bought her current naked SV650 K3. She loves the SV, says it's the best bike for her riding style. Of all the things about the SV she rants about the engine and the way it makes the best use of the power it has. She's a bit fast round corners, so wants to upgrade the suspension a bit.
A few people look on it as trading down, but I disagree. She's bought the bike that suits her best. Now I've sold my Daytona 955i I'm torn between buying a faired SV or buying a Ducati ST4S. |
