Nice to see you are listening to a local to pick up the newton/slaidburn and over the top to Keasdon route.

However, I you must loop round that side of Blackburn, then drop down to the A59 at Ribchester and cross it. Once you cross the bridge over the Ribble take the next right (Gallows Lane) sign posted for Hurst Green. If you miss it don't worry head into Ribchester and after the Ribchester Arms take the next right (Stoneygate Lane) I think sign posted for Chipping. Follow either of these roads for about a mile and then turn right onto the B6243. It is a fantastic road and follow it until you almost get to Clitheroe and hang a left upto Waddington to pick up the fell road up to Newton. and then a right down to Slaidburn.

Go through Slaidburn and pull into the carpark on your left across from the green. Now stop, relax, grab a coffee and chill.

When you leave Slaidburn, you cross the Ribble, up a hill with a very tight left hander. (First gear recommended). About 4 miles out out there is a left then right series of 90 degree bends (Shacklady curves to me after mate who dropped it there). 100 yards after that you turn left into Dugdale Lane, it is a narrow country lane, enjoy it especially the run up hill. Once you get to the top, again stop for 5 minutes and chill, take in the view.

Then downhill all the way to Keasdon up to the A65 where we are camping.

If you do decide to follow the B6478 to Long Preston for the A65 upto the camp site, be prepared to crawl. This section of the A65 has very long stretches of of double white line, slow moving tractors/trucks and mile queues. It is one of my least favourite pieces of road.

Both the two above roads (Gallows lane/Stoneygate Lane) out from Ribchester to the B6243 and Dugdale Lane/Keasdon Road are single track. They are in good states of repair and have little traffic on them (Not no traffic).

Are we allowed to make alternative suggestions or comments or should I just be quite at this late stage of the game, and go the way I'm led. (should I be attending)

All suggestions welcome as long as you don't rant about the M1 part of the route. Thats Fizzys job!

Do you mean turn off the A666 onto the B6245?

I still think you are crazy to want to use the A666 from the M60 upto the M65.

You are going to go through the centre of Bolton and Darwen and the edge of Blackburn. whilst I have nothing against these towns why get snarled up in Friday afternoon town centre traffic with their flashy yellow boxes.?

Personally I would suggest that as you have come over the M57/M60 you use the M66 onto the M65 and off Junction 6 to pick up the suggested routes.

I know motorways are not good riding. But neither is small town centres

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you are suggesting;

From A57/M67 onto M60/M66/A56, join M65 @ J8 and then off at J6?

If so I'll edit the first thread to change route.

It would seem to be a bit more sensible that fighting cages through Bolton! And we still get to do a little bit of the A666!

Not wanting to put spanners in works, or seem ungreatful but........

Just went up to Northampton and back.

The 50mph restricted bits on the M1 where there are roadworks are awful.

Northbound 2 lanes stay on the main carriageway while the right hand one splits off (signposted as "M1 Only").

Twice on that single lane I came to a complete stop - how that happens i have NO idea, you have a piece of road, straight, not junctions and still it goes at 30mph and has stops.

I would recommend that we make sure we stick to the 2 lane section, or if possible avoid the M1 until Northampton.

Of course this may prove to be impractical.....

Having now confirmed that I am not going to make it. I shall not mention anything about the route again.
