Modified SV1000 air snorkel
I didn't fancy taking out my air snorkel completly so I decided to buy an SV1000 snorkel and modify it's length to give the filter some protection from water, but still give really good air flow.
It took about 10 mins with a dremmel and I quite impressed to be honest. Here's my piccy's. Last edited by danf1234; 23-05-07 at 04:46 PM. |

What is the advantage of doing this?

Re: Modified SV1000 air snorkel
It means the air intake is higher so fitted with risers it will help gulp more air. Otherwise it points down below the tank etc.

I can't quite make out what you've done to it?

Re: Modified SV1000 air snorkel
It's about half the normal length.

Re: Modified SV1000 air snorkel
Ahh - so they aren't before and after pictures? That'd be why I was struggling to spot the difference.
I haven't pulled my snorkle out yet, so I don't know what they are supposed to look like. |

Re: Modified SV1000 air snorkel
I honestly can't see the point in doing this.
I removed my SV1000's snorkel, in fact I've got the piperX filter and no airbox, and in 3 years theres no problems. Why go to the point of buying and modding one? |

Re: Modified SV1000 air snorkel
AlanSv & Baph - How much wet riding have you done in that time? (I suspect that in Baph's case at least it's a lot)
I'd like more induction noise and if I get a bit more pull great. That's my reason for looking into this. At the same time I've already experianced a single cyclinder SV so I'm concerned about reducing the bikes abilty to cope with the wet. So swapping the parts seems a good compromise. I doubt I'll be taking a dremel to it though. |

I went from Northwich back home in the absolute downpour after Thundersprint, two up on the bike. Never missed a beat. I think the snorkel was out when I rode through snow/ice & hail stones too. There's no real performance gain that I noticed, but I reckon it's one thing out of a combination of mods that's increased MPG (purely speculation though). |
