Default SV650 warranty

Hi folks,

I have a 2016 SV650A L7 bought few months ago.

I have basic mechanical skills so I wanted to do the maintenance myself (also because I had a previous bike heavily damaged by an official garage so I don't trust them anymore).

Did all the maintenance from the schedule in my owner's manual.

I stopped breathing since I received this response from Suzuki:

Quote:
I am sorry to report that in order for your Warranty to be maintained, your Servicing must be carried out by a VAT approved Servicing Retailer
I went immediately to check on the owner's manual and it does state:

Quote:
You may perform the unmarked maintenance items by referring to the instructions in this section, if you have mechanical experience
so.... WT*? can they do this? has anyone had the same problem? The bike is new and I had a 5 years warranty; have I lost it all only because I changed the oil basically? (and marked items are ONLY bolt tightening basically)

Thanks

It's true for every manufacturer. With paperwork and an invoice they can prove the work was carried out as per their guidelines.
Just get a garage to service the oil for the sake of it to keep the warranty intact

I have bought 2 or 3 year old cars from main dealers with 'full main dealer service history' and have found clogged black air filters, black cabin filters, rusty oil filters etc. - If those cars have been near the service bay I will paint my nails pink and change my name to Mary.

Dealer service requirement is nowt but blackmail and money by extortion for doing nothing.

I service my bikes (and cars, but never buy new cars anyway, always a couple of years old) from day one using quality products and keep receipts and am happy enough.

It's a bit too late now, the bike has already almost 4k miles and has never seen a garage.

I agree, it should not be legal for them to force you to pay for their service after you already pait *it load of money for the bike.

Is there any way to fix this? Is my warranty gone for good now?

Doubt you can do anything now. I had to fight Ford when they tried to worm out of a claim which was the previous owners fault for being a little late with the first year's service. I only got my way when I reminded the dealer that it was sold to me with "full" Ford service history.

As already said if you want a warranty you are effectively tied in. Like I suspect many people I use dealers until the warranty expires then do it myself or use a reputable indie.

Same here, but i don't tarnish all garages with the same brush. If i find a good one i'll stick with it. If not i'll do most things myself and they can do an oil & filter change for a stamp in the book.

It's any vat registered garage, so you choose who does it. If they are going to be held responsible for a warranty claim (manufacturing defect) they need to know it's been serviced correctly. A garage is more 'trustworthy' of keeping dates/times/work carried out that can be classed as proof to a manufacturer rather than someone who has carried out their own work.
