Question Running Lights + Brighter Bulb

Hi

K5 naked. I am looking for better lights for the darker riding coming.

Any recommendations please for:

a) a brighter/the best straight swop bulb for the headlight (assuming that's an easy "upgrade", I have whatever the garage had when the last one went. It doesn't seem very bright). Which one please?

b) running lights to fit (the front of the bike). I'm not sure where they go (on the fork?), but I like the idea. Which ones please, and do they come with all they need to fit?

Thanks a lot

1. Osram nightrider bulb, better and designed for bike use because of the extra vibration

2. LED bulb, but I don't know for a naked, as posts have only been about fitting them to faired SV's

Look at classiccarleds for H4 LED bulb upgrade with Philips Z-ES chips, I have one in my AL7 and fitted to both our cars also I fitted a pair of 10watt Cree led spots from alchemy motorcycle parts to my SV L7, Fed from side light via a fuse and handlebar mounted switch, alchemy have loads of quality LED lights suitable for running lights, from 3watt upwards, bear in mind LED lights give out 4x or more light per watt than a filament bulb.

If you look at 'reviews' section on this site under 'auxiliaries', 'H4 LED bulbs' I have posted photos of classiccarleds H4 LED bulb beams from my wifes car in there.

Thanks both. Good info.

On the Osram, did you mean Night BREAKER or Night RACER please (I don't see any night RIDER), and will any of these fit (the K5) if it says H4 on it (the Osram website doesn't have my bike year on their search tool).

The Alchemy running lights look good, where do you fix them, down on the forks?

For bulbs, if it says H4 and/or 472 it will fit.

I use the nightbreakers and was pleased enough with the improvement to get them for our car too.

I find the full beam really useless on country roads though. Not sure why.

H4 is H4 and its dual filament type e.g. hi-lo beam.

i was happy with the ebay LED but never got to test them at dark'o'clock but people i ride with said they were bright. BTW the LED ones like normal bulbs are all to do with Watts e.g. 50w and some are better than others.

the best hedlights i have ever had on my bike were hids4u 50w 5000k hid, they were super bright with a decent beam pattern and pure crisp white light not chavvy blue 6000k

the SV headlight loom is also known to be a problem.

I mounted mine off the mirror bolts on handlebar, a straight bracket with 6mm hole in one end and 10mm hole in the other. My thinking was that the higher up the lights are the earlier they will be seen especially on roads with dips and crests in them.

There's a police backed theory that creating a triangle of lights helps drivers judge distances better - so the lower mounted auxiliary lights on some of the adventure type bikes are a good example to follow.
