New road safety ad
Has anyone seen the new bike road safety ad from the Dept for Transport? What do you think of it?

They showed us that on the bike safe I did. It's nice to see a road safety advert with a bike where the bike stays upright throughout

Good and nice to see a "realistic" ride (ie not someone crawling at about 20mph throughout, doing overshoulder observations every two second, nor is it some lunatic absolutely gunning it).
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but to me it almost suggested, "If you can read the road well, it's almost as good as signs like these..." |

They were also saying those signs aren't as obvious as you'd like, so be careful. |

I must admit I think it's pretty good - informative but not patronising. I guess it goes back to what people on this forum have said before about always riding such that you can stop within the distance you can see...
The ad/film is mainly to be shown at things such as BikeSafe or other events, plus limited TV airing - shame it won't be more widely shown though, as it's better than half the stuff that we get in London! One day perhaps I'll be important enough to say what we should do here at TfL, but until then I absolve myself of responsibility... |
