Default Local biker dies in Southend aged 21.

So last night a biker whom I knew of died after hitting a lamp post. His pillion hospitalized.

I know the road well and ride it everyday. It's a quiet, wide, well surfaced 30mph road called fossets way.

It's very sad, and my thoughts are with his family.

Having ridden it 100s of times I can't see what makes it a hotspot. It's tempting to go fast as there are no junctions. Heading toward Sutton road though there is a bend leading to a roundabout that could feel daunting as an inexperienced rider, especially if you were going at a decent speed as you'd have to scrub speed off whilst turning. The bike I believe was a suzuki gsr 600 and before that he had a vespa. Quite a jump in power. I wonder if anything what they'll do to make the road a less tempting place for speed.

Another sad loss of an early life

I'd be interested to hear the cause, could've been ice, diesel, not speed related.

It is a sad fact of life, particularly as bikers that people we know die. When sudden and possibly as a result of somebody's actions or lack of the best thing to do is learn from the incident. Occasionally the learning takes place at the top and for the right reasons.

I recall 35 years ago a friend of mine being killed as a result of his helmet coming off. Government learnt and chin cups/straps were banned.

In this case, if it is such a hot spot, maybe the problem needs to be engineered out rather than the usual knee jerk of blame the rider etc.
