Default Warning - Insurance company scam?

Hi Guys, it's been a long time since I visited here so I hope you're all doing well and are having lovely biking summers?

I really felt I should post the following to warn you of a situation I just found myself in.

It's renewal time and I ring my insurers (Motorcycle direct) to get a quote. They ask the usual questions and when I tell them I have a road legal aftermaket can and K&N filter, they go...

'oh, I'm afraid Norwich Union are the only insurers who will underwrite a bike with mods this year, Equity Red Star won't, so ignore the forthcoming postal renewal quote of £158 quid with Equity Red Star, as it won't be valid'

They proceeded to 'quote me happy' to the tune of £292 with Norwich union!!! Happy my ar$e! My insurance has nigh on doubled overnight!

Anyway I'm not one to take what I'm told as read so I get on the phone with Equity Red Star who tell me that they have no problem at all insuring bikes with road legal cans and K&N filters. they offered to take my case up with Motorcycle direct.

I call motorcycle direct as well, enquiring why they'd told me that Equity red star won't insure mods when ERS say they do?

'Oh I'll go and talk to my supervisor and call you back'

Half an hour passes, the phone rings and I get a voice on the end of the phone

'Mr Rukus - we've spoken to ERS and they will insure the bike at the postal quote price'

Ignorance, or sneaky commission building? you decide....

Just thought I should share this as Motorcycle direct were trying to scam me out of £134 and I wouldn't want to see that happen to any of you guys!!!

Good luck!!!

Ruk

The cheeky bleeders!!!

As if they don't get enough money out of you for doing the square root of sod all. My insurance company asked me for another £100 when I transferred me insurance from a CBR400 to the SV. About £25 of that was a ruddy Admin fee!!!

Hah, think yourself lucky it wasn't the other way round... I'm still trying to sort a misselling case with CIA Insurance, who sold me a policy that was supposed to cover my mods, but doesn't- even though they weighted the price to take into account the higher value.

had a similar with MCE. No-ones cheaper we're giving you the cheapest quote. Its £279 but if you want legal cover, breakdown cover [bearing in mind its FC insurance Im after] thats seperate and will be £410.

£300 FC Carole Nash all the above included. NEVER believe your insurers when they say theyre the cheapest. Always ring round every year. Buggers.
