front fork bush question
Hi all,
Been swapping over the internals from my bent race forks with some donor forks. Managed to open 3 out of 4 of the forks - one bottom bolt still refuses to do anything other than just spin - even with the broom handle method. I've got to the stage of replacing oil seals on the first fork but I can't seem to get it in far enough. Does the top bush push all the way in so it's flush with the recess inside the fork? ie. inbetween the stanchion and the internal bottom part of the fork. If it does, how on earth do you drive it in? I presume the washer then sits flush on top and the oil seal sits on top of that. I've been at this all weekend and it's starting to really pi$$ me off! Cheers, Dave

Re: front fork bush question
Usually fork bushes are situated near the top, then the washer then the seal.
Bush is as near to top as possible to give support to the stanchion as it moves in and out. If it was at the bottom of the slider, you'd have masses of movement between the slider and stanchion. Hope this is of some help. |

Yep, the upper bush does sit flush with the top of its cavity. I used a hardwood "thing" to tap it in, doing little taps while working around the edge, paying particular attention to where the bush splits. |

Re: front fork bush question
Not stripped an SV fork yet, do they not have a slot on the damper rod to hold it while you undo the bottom screw?
