Warming up
Its cold and miserable, and my SV knows it. When i start it in the mornings i normally set the choke so the engine idles at ~3000rpm. However, when i set off (with the choke off) the engine idles quite slow, about 1000rpm (i like it at about 1500 rpm) and cuts out on me at junctions.
What should i correctly be doing to warm my bike up? And (stupid question) what way should i turn the idle speed adjuster to increase the idle speed a little? BTW once warm, my bike idles fairly ok. Oh, its restricted too, so i dont know if this will affect the engine warming up? Matt |

I try to get my bike to run at 1500-2000 RPM when on choke while warming up, higher than that and the engine is racing IMO which does it no good. After getting dressed I knock the choke off and have no issues with it stalling. My tickover is set at around 1100.

Ok, thanks for that. I thought 3000rpm might be a little high. How long should i leave it on choke to warm up?

I just start the bike, set 'fast idle' with choke, wheel out of garage, put on jacket + lid + gloves, close garage and off. 3-4 minutes?
My bike is in the garage, so has an easier time of it. |

I am not sure about anybody else but I give mine full choke for 10-15 seconds or until it really starts to rev, I then gradually ease it down over the next 30-40 seconds until it idle speed is set before starting off.

Sell your curvy & buy a pointy.
I just fire her up, put my gloves on, wait for the LCD to tell me a temperature reading, and away I go. What's all this lark about 'choke'? I thought choking was something likely to carry a prison sentence :P HTH |
