Default Lasting power of attorney

Has anyone on hear had much experience of setting this up.
Can more than one person be allocated it's roll?
Can you implement it without a solicitor
Is EDP a viable alternative?

My mother set one up naming two of my brothers with the power. I only knew as her solicitor sent me and my other brother/sister letters advising this had been done.

Actually a good move naming two. As one ended up going ga-ga a year ago.

I would say it is best to use a solicitor as they can advise/limit scope etc. Initially in my mothers case, scope was limited to her personal well being. later on we had to get her to include financial matters as well.

Ending up in a London asylum after walking out of your apartment because you cannot face reality is definately ga-ga in my book.

But I still think it is a good point, you make a lasting power of attorney because you fear that at some point you may not be able to look after your own interests. but what happens if the person you grant those powers to, turns out to be even nuttier than you.

I wasn't disputing the diagnosis, just whether the term used is recognised the the UK medical board.

The rules changed a couple of years ago. My sis and I have POA for both parents just in case which was sorted before the change. Think you need a solicitor now.

You can set up a lasting power of attorney yourself without a solicitor

https://www.gov.uk/government/collec...attorney-forms

You can have seperate LPA's, for finances and health. These can only make decisions around what they have been appointed for.
You can have joint power of attorney or you can have people in line in case something happens to your main LPA.

I did just type a whole load of info but I my tablet deleted it so I give up.

I think LPA is a good idea for anyone no matter what age.
if anything ever happened to me I would want to know that someone that knows and loves me would make a decision in my best interest.

I have financial LPA for my mum, we used a solicitor to be sure we got it all right. The best thing about using a solicitor is that they keep all the original paperwork in their safe, best peace of mind for all involved. I don't have medical though, even though she needs it, I leave that to my dad.
