Looking for motorcycle restoration vids or links
Really interested on increasing my general knowledge on how bikes work and how they are put together...before I start getting itchy fingers and begin taking mine apart.
Would be good if folks could sign post me to any good sites / dvds / or youtube blogs that show detailed maintainance or even better, in depth restoration projects. The longer and more detailed videos...the better. I do use manuals but to be honest I am much more of a monkey see, monkey do kinda fella As always...many thanks guys! |

Re: Looking for motorcycle restoration vids or links
Wow, my semi baffled attempts at spannering are being recommended. Thank you.
My partner and I have made a couple of you tube videos on servicing my bike. So far I have done adjusting the worm gear, fork service and brake calliper service. For the brake calliper one I wore my best frock and even did my nails! However there are two versions of it, one quite short and to the point. The other is far longer because we left in the swearing! My partner Carol is a bit of a film maker, so our channel has a lot of videos on there, some are of our bike adventures and some are of our travels by other means. There are many other Organs here who have far more technical than I, but my videos tend to be a little silly. |

Had a quick glance at ya films Jayne, and you seem to love Thailand (as me and the missus do). Any advice for hiring motorcycles in Chaing Mai area. Heading out there for three weeks back end of Oct and the wife fancies some exploring.

Re: Looking for motorcycle restoration vids or links
are you a complete novice with spanners or have a bit of savvy?
for complete novice i would recommend and if you have the space getting an old pushbike or even an old motorbike that is rusted to burgery, striping it and building it back up. if it breaks then no hardship but it will teach you how to work with spanners and rusted on parts before you go wielding tools at your more precious bike. top tip on nuts/bolts, use your fingers to thread nuts/bolts on, if a bolt wont go in by hand then its more than likely you are starting to cross thread. the biggest killer of sump plugs and spark plugs is people using sockets to put the plug back in. the other is torque, you really dont need to go all he-man on nuts and bolts. you will eventually get a 'feel' for things as you go. |

For hiring bikes up North have a chat with the always lovely Little Pea Head on here, she is another Thailand tourer and has done several bike trips in that part of the country. Have a great trip and be careful on those wild Thai roads. |
