Default SV1000 - New ride for 2015

Thought I'd share some images of my new steed for 2015.

Actually bought in November 2014 from an Org member, since then its been scrubbed up and had new chain, sprockets and tyres.

The carbon cans are not going to pass an MOT so I just hung one on for the pictures.

MOT time next saturday so hoping for no surprises, then we can set about it.

Firstly I'm not sure on the look of the headlight, a bit stuck out there, any suggestions on alternatives? The standard clocks are the same so I may look into something subtler.

Then a shock change would be good to match up with the front upgrades.

But for now I can't wait to get out on the roads with her and maybe I'll take it up the hill climbs in the big boys class which could be interesting!!

Looks nice that! The headlight should be able to go a lot closer than that. I think barwel had the same one and his wasn't that far out

Might be worth getting the rear cover for the speedo to protect the connector

Looks canny that and after your cracking 650 build im sure you'll put your stamp on that thou My little bro has just got an sv1000n, very nice and just right for an older bro to *cough* borrow

Barwels build thread headlight bracketry on page 20 to save you searching, i miss his org input and build threads he was good at his craft.

Ha ha its only fair!

Thank you both, Barwels headlight does look good further back so I'll look for some shorter brackets and maybe in black too.

Cheers

Update:

MOT passed today with no advisories. The carbons cans were fitted half an our later

I see the subframe has taken a knock which has pushed the right pillion peg in a bit, and quite possibly the lower exhaust is bent slightly as the two cans don't look even.

Not so fussed about that but I may one day see if the redundant rear subframe from my 650 build will fit.

I even taxed it today, yes 7 days before a new month, but for 7 quid a month I just don't care!

First ride out today. Not great conditions on wet, muddy and windy roads.

But:

Its a fantastic ride, goes like a scalded cat in any of the first 4 gears (I didn't need the others yet!) and handles well for a "big" bike.

The brakes work instantly with a squeeze of one pinky which will take some getting used to from the handful I needed on the ageing CBR but I have some shortys coming which I'm more used to on the 650.

I need to adjust the pegs to be lower which should be doable with the GB rearsets so I'll get them on the lowest position and test again.

Looking forward to the spring even more! I love it!

Videos coming soon....

How does it compare to the 650? Thinking of moving up from my 650, not sure about the extra weight though

I've never ridden the 650 on the roads so it'd be difficult to compare.

However, it will depend what you want from the bike.

Inner city commuting? I wouldn't recommend it after my brief experience so far.
The Sv1000 likes to stretch its legs really, in town it feels quite lumpy and stifled, especially low down the rev range.
Although on the brand new rubber, it feels agile and I don't notice the weight until I'm man-handling it into the shed or up n down the drive. The extra weight does seem to help it hold the road well, especially on the bumpy country roads that surround me.

On the open road, it'll make you giggle like a school girl and all in all it really has a great character to it.
You know you've ridden it that's for sure!

If you want a satisfying, good all rounder for sunday scratching, eating roads for touring and maybe the odd trackday, I think it will tick all those boxes for me eventually. For the right price you wouldn't find much else to compare.

If in doubt try finding a dealer willing to let you test one.
