Default Guy Martin

Did anyone see Guy Martin on his BMW racing a F1 car on TV?
Do you agree with me and think this was a bit one-sided as the bike he was racing was basically a street stock using one mechanic when it was up against a £5 million full F1 car with 10 mechanics.
I think to make it more even re-film it with 'The Doctor' on the M1 Yamaha, then see the result.

The F1 car would still walk all over it.

Just look at lap times.

I agree the car would be faster on the full lap but the braking test would be interesting due to the carbon brakes on the M1 which the BMW did not have and the sprint would be very close as the M1 has launch control and traction control also has slick tyres and is a lot faster than the Beemer so the car would not catch him so quick if at all.

on acceleration and braking, and also top speed things looked pretty comparable, the only thing the car really had an edge with was cornering speed, basically because of downforce aerodynamics the F1 'driver' can just pile into a corner at pretty much full speed, knowing that the extra tyre contact area added to the massive downforce will get them through. Bikes are limited by lean angle and a teensy weensy contact patch.

Take the wings off the F1 car and re-run the competition.

I think modern F1 racing is a few steps down from 'watching paint dry' on the scale of interesting things to watch, bring back the V10 / V12 engines (if just for their awesome sound) and ditch all the driver 'aids' . In a MotoGP, WSB, BSB race you can have the lead or positions change many times in a lap, in F1 ? well its a bit of a procession really, the pit stop strategy has more effect on result than the driver.

It was far from a fair test in reality, like you said reference the contact patch, if the F1 car had anything like average road car tyre contact patch it would be a different story given that the bike isn't a million miles from a standard road going bike.

It should have been a current MotoGP bike and rider (Marquez?) It wasn't a level playing field.
