Waterproofs, or at least mine and I'm not buying new ones, don't keep you totally dry. Water gets in at the neck and if it gathers in your crotch it tends to get through the seams there too. Then there's the fact you're insulted and sweat has nowhere to go.

Being wet can be dangerous if it causes you to then get cold.

If you are out and roads get closed \ unpassable then you've got a real problem and possibly dangerous situation. It's also a bit irresonsable to get into that situation if you have warning.

I'm not saying it can't happen or it's unsafe. Just that trying to assess a siutation 2/3 days ahead and 200 miles away is tricky and I want to do my best to get it right.

The actual riding in the wet doesn't bother me and that's now what I mean by a safety issue. That said anyone having an off could be relying on an already stretched emergency services.

I think you should check your geography. No doubt they had some bad weather, but they get heavy rain around Settle / Inglebrough / kirkby Steven all the time - it drains into the rivers and ends up in places like Preston. We are nowhere near Sheffield. most folks will be coming up the M6, so will miss the fun of the closed M1 (unless re-opened).

It's only a bit of rain.....

You're right - I have ASOLUTELY NO GEOGRAPHICAL KNOWLEDGE - quite happy to concede that.

All I'm hearing is that Yorkshire has been taking a battering and I thought that was where we were headed.

FYI I don't have a telly so I'm more out of touch than most.

If you have a look at a map you will see we are actually closer to blackpool than Sheffield/rotherham, we,ll be fine.
