Rectifier/Regulator
Morning all!
I finally got my SV back on the road after. Long story short... moto-racing.co.uk supplied me with the wrong link(too narrow) for my new chain, which ended up breaking the new chain tool I'd bought to do the job :/ moto-racing maybe cheap, but their customer service is non-existant and they cost me more money GRRR! Anyway, 4 days after it's back on the road it fails to start. One click, then no dash display at all. I had to recover the battery from virtually dead before the MOT, so I whipped it out to check and my charger reads 'green'. I plugged it back in and checked the connections on the relay and it starts up. I suspect this may have something to do with putting it on charge for a few minutes. I did they head light test, by revving the engine, and they didn't get brighter. So I'm pretty sure it's the rec. But I have a multimeter on the way to do some more tests. ....to the point. This is the 2nd time the rec and battery have gone. This post (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...ttery+problems) mentions getting a replacement with a sense wire. Does the original svk4 part not have a sense wire? I'm pretty sure the CBR600RR part has a sense wire..will this fit the svk4? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-2003-200...6#ht_500wt_928 Any input much appreciated. Cheers Nath |

Re: Rectifier/Regulator
Okay, time to bump this with some more info.
I got the multimeter on it just now, measuring between the two battery terminals: Ignition Off: 12.62V Ignition On: 12.02V Engine running: 13.6V @ 5k RPM: 14.5V @ 7K RPM: 14.5V So this is not a problem with the rectifier, right? |

Re: Rectifier/Regulator
Is that with lights on?
If so that looks healthy to me. 14.5 is right where you need it. This would suggest it is just a dud battery.

Re: Rectifier/Regulator
Yeah, with lights on, and I've just re-tested the lights while blipping the throttle and they do brighten, but only just. I think a combination of day light and 'bright' bulbs made it hard to see.
So the battery is knackered, even tho' I managed to revive it with my optimate. What an ****. Better than paying the shop to look over it for me tho. As always thanks very much for the feedback. You guys have saved me a lot of money. Ta Nath |

Re: Rectifier/Regulator
You never know it might "come back to life" with a bit of use, but that's usually just a temporary respite.
