Give it a good clean, if its just surface rust and on the plates. Then lube the chain

small patch of rust... hahahaaaaaaa, you should see mine after standing out all winter. its the same every year, ooohhh look a rusty chain think i'll get the chain lube out, gone in a few weeks.
get some brown sauce or coca cola on it or even better go to halfords and get some crust. i picked up some 90% phosphoric acid (stuff they put in cola) and use that on any rust... by by rust. if your chain has serious tight spots or stiff links then yes renew the chain otherwise your wasting your money.
