Default SV650S, no reaction to starter button

****EDIT****

Problem is now solved, turn to page 2 for what the problem was and to help me with my 2nd question.

****EDIT****

I just got back home and found that while I was out my sister had managed to somehow knock my 2000 SV650S over.

It landed on the left side and from a quick first inspection the only damage is a few scratches on the front & rear fairings, and some on the bar end weight.

The problem though is that there is no response to the starter button, nothing at all. I believe the clutch is working fine, having rolled down my drive on the bike it seems to be shifting fine.

I am going to try and bump start the bike in a minute and will update this post if it works, however in the mean time could somebody please let me know what I should look for.

Thanks.

First, check kill switch.
Second, check bike is in neutral (sounds like you already have)
Third, check side stand cut out switch.

As above post from wyrdness. Also check the clutch switch hasn't been unplugged or damaged during the commotion (little electrical connector under the clutch perch).

As for your sister....

Will go and check all of those things in a minute.

Just had a go at bump starting it, was doing about 15mph down a hill, in 2nd gear, dumped the clutch and all that happened was the back wheel locked up, absolutely no reaction from the engine.

Also, I just noticed that the oil warning light is staying on after I turn the ignition on. Have checked the oil level and its fine.

When you say check the kill switch, do you simply mean check that I havn't got it on? With the side stand cut out switch, how would I check that its working properly?

you'll struggle to bump it in 2nd, really high torque. go for 3rd or 4th. oil warning light stays on till the engine starts, thats normal.

pull the seat off and look for a small black box with an arrow on it. make sure it's ok. thats the tip over kill switch. give it a tap.
and make sure the arrow points up.

This is the superior curvy model . There's no tip over switch - that's pointy only.

I don't actually live up North any more. I'm down in Bristol.

I'm from Bishop Auckland originally though.
