Default Any opinions on Firefox Racing? (formerly DPS racing) Keighley

Morning, the suspension on my gsxr srad 600 track day bike is knackered to put it bluntly. I have spoken to a couple of firms to see what the bare minimum is I need to spend to make it "rideable". It's not a full on race bike and I am skint so cost is main priority. They are all saying I need front end serviced with good oil and new linear (not progressive) springs at about 180inc vat which I can live with. However they all want to sell me a new race/sport shock and spring starting at about 600 bearing in mind the bikes only worth a grand on a good day. Firefox say they can servive old shock for 85 or service, revalve internals and set to my weight and style of riding for fraction of cost of new unit. Being a yorkshire man this appeals! but if so simple why doesn't everyone do it? Has anyone used this firm? any good? do they have race bike prep history? I am always a bit concerned by companies that change their names.thanks for any feedback guys and gals.

Firefox is THE place to go with regards to suspension, cant remember his name but a guy who works there is sh*t hot at setting bikes up etc. I have known a few guys go there and every single one of them highly recommends them. So would be a big thumbs up from me! I think, but dont quote me on this, that they have race experience.. but like I say not 100% sure on that.

I popped down there to get a puncture sorted on the bike and they are really friendly guys.

You're fookin joking?
For same price (probably less) I can do you same including revalve.

I can also change the shock oil and seals for you, but the comp. circuit on those shocks is about as basic as it gets, I'm not sure revalving it would be worth the effort though for initial improvements it would be cheaper than an aftermarket shock.

Thanks for that, I will bear that in mind yorkiechris. How much do you think forks could be done for? Don't expect miracles on a tight budget but deffo needs springs as mine have preloads wound all way in and still has too much static sag (same at rear). Not sure what to do about shock, either get it fettled or keep scouring ebay for a 2nd hand performance one as I can't justify a new one on it.

If they're otherwise sound with regards the mechanical bits (seals, bushings, chrome) then a set of springs is about 90 from maxton and oil is about 15.
50 to me for doing it. Since I strip the things down to components anyway revalving is not any extra work just another 15 or so for the new shims.

Changing shock oil is cheap, happy to try it and see if it gives you the improvement you're looking for.

Is the fork service DIY'able or do you need special tools? How do you know which oil and how much to use? Don't fancy tackling shocker though, how much for you to do shocker? I am a mechanic but on buses so have plenty tackle and haynes manual at my disposal(if not maybe a bit big for bikes). I have always had near new bikes in past and not really had to mess with them apart from oil changes etc. I deffo want to fit new springs front and rear, I am on the right track with linear ones for track day use? Whos are the best value? Where you at? Sorry about barrage of questions!!

Yeah you can do fork service yourself. 125mm (set height not volume), 5W. I use pro RSF5 on those forks (have them fitted to my SV).
Yes, linear. Maxton were cheapest I could find but shop around. How much do you weigh?

I'm down at Wheatley.

12 stone without riding kit, bike is standard with lights etc still on. Will fit race body work if/when this gets damaged.
