I do a few leg stretches and take it gently for the first quarter mile or so. If it's a competitive event I spend more time doing warm ups. If your ankles feel stiff Darren, I'd definitely recommend doing a few stretches to loosen up before setting off.

I need to get a couple of slightly longer runs in this week as I'm running with Shropshire Canicross in this on Sunday. We did it last year too, when my leg went from Little Wenlock to Wellington via the Wrekin and the Ercall. This Sunday I'm running from Donnington Wood to Ketley. We're hoping to complete the whole relay in a combined time of under 10 hours on Sunday.
Should be good fun, although the weather forecast is a bit grim!

I've had problems with my ankles for a long time now (at least four years). I've no medical training, so this is just personal experience, caveat emptor, etc.

The tendons running through the ankle attach to muscle in the calf, some quite high up near the knee. I've found that releasing these have given me the best relief in the ankle.

Because the muscles the tendons attach to are deep and below the two main calf muscles, it is quite hard to get to them. I've found a soft foam roller used with the calf muscles completely relaxed is the best way, focusing on the underside and outside of the calf.

Made it out for a longer run of just under 8 miles this morning. Very wet and muddy!

Here's the relive video of the route I took.

Well I survived, might be a different story tomorrow though lol

Not fast by any stretch of the imagination but my aim was to finish it in under 3 hours and I crossed the line at about 2:45/2:50 so I'm happy with that

Good man DD, well done! Day of rest tomorrow. Did you track the run (Strava/Garmin etc)?

I have the Telford T50/50 relay challenge tomorrow. About 6 miles for the leg I'm doing with my co-runner. Should be interesting as the weather looks truly pretty grim. Layers and waterproofs I think!
